Strategy #1: Create a new horizontal in a crowded space (with a massive competitor!)

Everyone knows Microsoft Powerpoint, right?

For years, it was the only option for you to create slide decks.

But, just like the founders of Gamma, they kinda disliked it.

However, you can not simply “create a better version” of a slide deck product, which is literally what PowerPoint is all about.

You’re simply not going to win market share.

So, how do you win in such a market, dominated by a giant competitor?

Well, you have to aim to revolutionize how people are going to share their ideas, thoughts, and knowledge.

And the founders did just that.

Because Gamma lets you create vertical, square or horizontal slides.

Which sounds stupidly simple and even obvious, but with PowerPoint, you simply can’t or couldn’t at the time.

Its best feature, however, is their AI.

This made people go crazy for Gamma over PowerPoint in the first place.

But, as we all know, building a great product is 1, but how do you find customers.

Enter..

Strategy #2: ProductHunt launch

On August 17 in 2022, Gamma launched their new revolutionary product to the most tech-savvy community on the internet.

PH launches don’t always return in acquiring users and growth, but in Gamma’s case, it certainly did.

It became the best product of the day, week, and month.

Resulting in the onboarding of tens of thousands of users.

Because of it, hundreds of newsletters, blogs, and Twitter accounts mentioned Gamma.

Strategy 4: Viral Loop Marketing

This little “Made with Gamma” button on presentations is what users are sharing with others, mainly b2b people, and brings in new users every day.

Gamma is actually one of the masters of Viral Loop Marketing.

Strategy 4: Leverage creators

Over 80% of users say that they discovered Gamma from a friend or via social media.

So, they paid AI influencers like Robin Delta to share and talk about Gamma (and thus reaching their desired target audience fairly easily):
